newportablegrills.com answers:

You should look at your bill to see if its estimated, if it is call the gas company and demand that they re read your meter. Personally i think you are making a huge mistake by going from electric to gas for your stove. I have had both and will take gas over electric any day of the week. Gas heats up quicker, more evenly and is cheaper and more reliable

Is there a 'Wok Grill' set that would allow me to reach that temperature or something like convection, etc?

newportablegrills.com answers:

You will not get that type of temperature from a home stove. The best you can do is to heat your wok, add oil and fry in small batches. Even your grill outside will not reach a 900 degree temperature. Chinese restaurants have special burners that allow the higher temperatures the are able to get. Just do your stir fry in small batches. Use peanut oil it is able to handle the higher temperature better than other oils.

Do you have an oven? Four bricks? A space in your backyard? You have a grill! Take one of the racks out of the oven, build your charcoal fire in a space the size of the grill. Put a brick at each corner. Best to do this before you light the fire. Light it off and when the coals are ready put the oven rack on the bricks and there you go. Happy grilling. Dont forget your fire extinguisher. Cant bend to the ground? Got a wheelbarrow? Fill it half full of dirt and follow the above instructions. Doing this on your apartment deck? DONT!!! Go buy a cheapo gas grill for $20. And remember.FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITHIN REACH AT ALL TIMES

newportablegrills.com answers:

There must always be a regulator somewhere in the system. If you examine the existing home installation you will probably find a regulator at the tank and one at the wall just before the piping enters the building. The one at the tank (1st stage) is taking tank pressure which is anywhere from 0 to 200psi on a really hot day and dropping it down to a consistent pressure of usually 10psi. The second regulator (2nd stage) takes the 10psi and drops it down to 11" wc which is the operating pressure of propane appliances. If the connection for your grill is AFTER this 2nd stage regulator, you do not require a regulator at the grill. If it is BETWEEN these two regulators you need one at the grill. You must never deliver more than 11"wc to an appliance or damage can occur. By the way…When you go to the tank to look for the first stage regulator, knock on the dome cover with a wrench or something to see if anyone is at home! Wasps love making nests under those covers!

Noisy Regulator on my Char-Broil Gas Grill – HELP!?

I bought a new Char-Broil gas grill this year, and ever since I bought it I've had this problem with a very noisy regulator. At first, I learned to ignore it, but now it's just getting annoying. I bought a new regulator and replaced it… but that didn't work. It only happens when you turn all the burners on high. I went through 4 propane tanks, thinking it could be the tank – but that didn't solve the problem. I cleaned out all the holes on the burners where the gas comes out of, and that didn't help. I'm clean out of options. I don't want to return the grill, because it's gotta be something so easy to fix, I just can't find out what it is. Help! Before you answer this question, please view the YouTube video I made of this problem, so you can see for yourself how loud this SOB is. I hope someone can help! Thanks so much!! Here's the link to the YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3WUddbtt4o

Take it back to where you purchased it. It's nothing but a lemon. I had one 4 years ago by "Weber" that did the same thing and I did the same thing and ended up at a barbecue that turned into a freakin' fire. So don't waste anymore time with it, the propane will eventually unite and the gas with eventually fumagate up into the boiler area and before you know it, you're going to have flames!! … Been there done that and it's not worth it!!! … My neices were present at the time and they were almost burned because of this malfunctioning device. I took mine back after 2 months of use and got my money back. I now have a nice portable one by Wagner and it's working beautifully. Don't play around with this … Get rid of the thing before someone gets hurt!! Much Love Peace & Happiness

I got Applewood chips and charcoal to grill w/ this recipe how can I use wood chips to smoke/grill the meat?

Grilled Chicken with Basil Dressing Ingredients 2/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil 3 tablespoons plus 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 1 1/2 teaspoons fennel seeds, coarsely crushed 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 6 boneless skinless chicken breasts 1 cup lightly packed fresh basil leaves 1 large clove garlic 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest Directions Whisk 1/3 cup of oil, 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, fennel seeds, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a heavy-duty re-sealable plastic bag. Add the chicken and seal the bag. Massage the marinade into the chicken. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes and up to 1 day, turning the chicken occasionally. Meanwhile, blend the basil, garlic, lemon zest, remaining 1/4 cup lemon juice, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a blender until smooth. Gradually blend in the remaining 1/3 cup oil. Season the basil sauce, to taste, with more salt and pepper, if desired. Prepare the barbecue for medium-high heat or preheat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the chicken until just cooked through, about 5 minutes per side. Transfer the chicken to plates. Drizzle the basil sauce over and serve. Grilled Flank Steak with Balsamic Glaze Ingredients Cooking spray 2 tablespoons triple peppercorns (recommended: peppercorn melange) 1 flank steak, about 1 1/4 pounds Salt 2 teaspoons garlic flakes 4 slices bacon, diced 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar 1/2 cup reduced-sodium beef broth 2 teaspoons cornstarch 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves Directions Heat a stove-top grill pan or griddle with cooking spray over medium-high heat to preheat. Place peppercorns in a plastic bag and smash with the flat side of a meat mallet, or bottom of a heavy skillet, until finely crushed. Season both sides of flank steak with crushed peppercorns, salt and garlic flakes. Place steak on hot pan and cook 5 minutes per side for medium doneness. Remove from heat and let steak rest 10 minutes. Slice meat crosswise into 1/4-inch thick slices. While the steak is cooking, Place diced bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and crisp. Add vinegar and bring to a simmer for 5 minutes, or until liquid reduces. In a small bowl, add broth and cornstarch, whisking until cornstarch is completely dissolved, and add to skillet. Simmer 2 minutes bringing to a full boil, until sauce thickens. Remove from heat, spoon sauce over steak slices and top with parsley Do I need to soak the wood? Any advice is appreciated

I bought a Webber gas grill a couple of years ago, along with the grill was a cook book, which contained the following recipe for grilled chicken: Ricotta Chicken 1 whole chicken 4 to 5 pounds 12 oz. Ricotta cheese 1 egg 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1 1/4 tsp dried basil, or oregano 3/4 tsp dried tarragon 2 Tbs minced parsley 1 large clove garlic, mixed with olive oil 1/4 tsp paprika Rinse and pat dry w paper towels Remove the whole backbone and tail. Place chicken skin side up and press down with palms to "pop' bones so chicken will lie flat. Using a sharp knife and fingers loosen skin over top of breast and drumsticks. Mix ricotta, & parmasean cheese, egg, 1 tsp of the basil or oregano, 1/4 tsp tarragon. Spoon the mixture under the skin. Brush lightly with the garlic oil basil or oregano, and remaining terragon and papreka. Place chicken, skin side up on grill. Grill over INDIRECT HEAT, not directly over heat source with lid closed. Sometimes certain parts of the leg are cooked but the wider top part is sometimes raw. And how do I keep it from sticking to the foil. Should I use foil? I always use foil because I don't know if it's good to have the chicken right over the coals. Thanks.

newportablegrills.com answers:

I always used to have your problem. The key is to marinate it and grill it on a lower heat for about an hour. Buy one of those digital thermometer and the internal temp should be 170 for chicken. If you have good quality chicken, they'll turn out really tender and juicy. Remember: lower heat and longer duration, in general….so put the chicken on first you are grilling other things like steak or hamburgers.

Can Filet Mignon be made in the oven?

Ok, I'm on a diet and am in the mood for beef, but it has to be lean. I have an electric stove and no outdoor grill, so I was planning on wrapping it in foil and sticking it in the oven. I have already seasoned the meat the way I like it. How long should I leave it in the oven if I am gonna cook it that way? The meat is about 2 inches thick. Does the fact that the stove and oven are electric make any difference at all?

newportablegrills.com answers:

It would be better if you could broil it in the oven. Such a fine, tender cut of beef is best prepared with a dry cooking method, like broiling grilling or pan searing. By wrapping it in foil you will essentially be steaming the meat. If you have a broiler, set it on high and cook the meat about 4 minutes on each side for a 2 inch thick filet. If you have a meat thermometer, use it to reach the desired temp. To pan sear it, put in a hot skillet on the stove that has 1 tablespoon oil and one tablespoon butter melted in it. (Or spray it with pan, if the fat isn't one your diet. Cook it about 4 minutes per side and then turn down the heat and cover VERY LOOSELY with foil until it reaches the desired level of doneness for you. But if you still want to cook it in foil in the oven, you should start with about 15 minutes and then check on it. You don't say how much or how thick the steak is so that is as close as I can get.

Any tips on how to have that delicious smoky flavour when using an electric griller?

My mom bought this electric griller with Teflon surface so the meat doesn't stick and burn. We have been using this griller since then because our outdoor griller is pretty old and broken. Plus, the electric griller is easier to use and doesn't get your hands dirty unlike with the one using coals. But the thing I've noticed is, the meat, although looking all delicious and not charred, it always lack this tasty smoky flavour you get when you grill meat using coal. Have you guys experience this as well, or is it just me? Why is that? Do you guys have any helpful ideas or tips that perhaps can give this smoky flavour back into the meat?
Buy some Liquid Smoke. It's an awesome product that adds a wonderful smoky flavor into foods. You can brush it onto foods or add it to recipes. I've even added it to barbecue sauces if they aren't smoky enough for me. The brand I usually use is Wright's, and the link is below.

newportablegrills.com answers:

You need to change the wire and the receptacle outlet. If you just change the breaker, the house may burn down. A 60 amp circuit will need a 60 amp receptacle outlet and number 6 copper wire. And usually the 60 amp circuit will be a 2 pole 240/120 volt 4 wire circuit. I highly recommend you hire a qualified electrician to install this for you.

Cooking salmon- best methods?

I want to find a reliable way to cook salmon the way my boyfriend and I like it- just barely done, very soft and moist. I think it's nasty when it gets firm and light colored, but I don't want it totally raw either. So what's the best method? Oven? Broiler? Stove top? Grill? Covered or uncovered? Wrapped in foil? I've tried lots of ways, and sometimes it turns out really good, and sometimes, not so much. If I could find a way that always turned out great, it would be awesome. If you suggest an oven or stove, temperatures/settings would be helpful. Here are the cooking methods I have available: -Gas oven -Gas broiler -Gas stovetop -Gas outdoor grill -Electric indoor grill (Foreman) -Electric toaster oven The only thing we like to put on the salmon is a little butter and some Old Bay, so sauces are not preferred. Rab- would something like parchment cooking paper work? Is that what you're talking about?

newportablegrills.com answers:

For reliability, I prefer poaching in a pan on stove top. Start with a little melted butter or oil spray. Bring heat up to medium to start, but lower to finish. Put filets or steaks of salmon in pan to sear both sides. Then reduce heat, add a little water, wine, or broth. Place a pot lid over to retain steam to cook through Time will depend on thickness, so check regularly. Remove from heat when done sufficiently.

You don't take the husk completely off but removed the silk, wrap bacon strips around the corn and tie the husk back on.
This sounds wierd but works..I soak mine in a brine overnight (salt water, with some brown sugar) -then rinse..then I mirowave with some waterdowned sauce (bbq) hten I put on the grill. The brining makes it very moist, and it cooks faster….(water conducts heat)….Happy bbqing

newportablegrills.com answers:

I usually do mine as follows, dry rub & let sit in the fridge for a few hours, or overnight. Wrap in foil, place on pan in oven @ 275 degrees for 3 hours. (this is for 2 racks of country style pork ribs. If using just one rack, or baby backs you need to lessen the time to about 2 hours.) Remove from oven and let cool for about 15-20 mins. While they are cooling I pre-heat the gas grill, then place on grill, meat baste side down, baste with sauce of your choice, cover & cook on low for about 6 minutes, flip over, baste again, cover and cook 5 more minutes. The slow cooking in the oven really helps to tenderize the meat and renders most of the fat out, while keeping the meat moist.

BBQing ribs with indirect heat on a gas grill?

I have a 5 burner gas grill. If I put 3 slabs of ribs out from the center and only use the two end burners at medium heat to cook them on indirect heat, about how long should they cook? I plan to sear them on hi heat very quickly first. BTW, as a grill enthusiast I can't think of anything more nauseating than boiling ribs before BBQing them.

newportablegrills.com answers:

By being a gas enthusiest, your grill I assume has a thermometer, that is key when cooking indirectly. And a meat thermometer if you are not taking chances on over or under cooking your ribs. You also have to consider the difference in spare ribs as apposed to baby back they both have different cooking times. With a temp at 250 – 300 degrees F, cook times would be around an hour per pound of ribs used. I hope this helps..

BBQ Ribs on a Gas Grill?

I am in a rib cook-off and the rules say that you can't boil the ribs before grilling. I have never cooked them without boiling so I need to know how to cook them on the grill skipping the boiling process. the ribs I'm going to cook are pork baby backs if that helps

newportablegrills.com answers:

Make sure you keep the temp between 220 and 270, also soak some wood chips and wrap them in aluminum foil, make a few holes with a knife and place it directly over the flames to get a nice smoke going. Low and slow is the tempo.
