I have a Weber charcoal grill. I heard you should bake your chicken before you grill it…is this correct? How should I prepare and cook the chicken safely and make it delicious? I am trying to prepare drumsticks on a Weber charcoal grill. What is the best way to prepare them? Is there any pre-cooking involved?

This sounds wierd but works..I soak mine in a brine overnight (salt water, with some brown sugar) -then rinse..then I mirowave with some waterdowned sauce (bbq) hten I put on the grill. The brining makes it very moist, and it cooks faster….(water conducts heat)….Happy bbqing

Your Questions About Gas Grill Ribs

Mandy asks…

BBQ ribs on a gas grill?

I'm looking for the best way to cook bbq pork ribs on a gas grill

newportablegrills.com answers:

I usually do mine as follows, dry rub & let sit in the fridge for a few hours, or overnight. Wrap in foil, place on pan in oven @ 275 degrees for 3 hours. (this is for 2 racks of country style pork ribs. If using just one rack, or baby backs you need to lessen the time to about 2 hours.) Remove from oven and let cool for about 15-20 mins. While they are cooling I pre-heat the gas grill, then place on grill, meat baste side down, baste with sauce of your choice, cover & cook on low for about 6 minutes, flip over, baste again, cover and cook 5 more minutes. The slow cooking in the oven really helps to tenderize the meat and renders most of the fat out, while keeping the meat moist.

Mary asks…

BBQing ribs with indirect heat on a gas grill?

I have a 5 burner gas grill. If I put 3 slabs of ribs out from the center and only use the two end burners at medium heat to cook them on indirect heat, about how long should they cook? I plan to sear them on hi heat very quickly first. BTW, as a grill enthusiast I can't think of anything more nauseating than boiling ribs before BBQing them.

newportablegrills.com answers:

By being a gas enthusiest, your grill I assume has a thermometer, that is key when cooking indirectly. And a meat thermometer if you are not taking chances on over or under cooking your ribs. You also have to consider the difference in spare ribs as apposed to baby back they both have different cooking times. With a temp at 250 – 300 degrees F, cook times would be around an hour per pound of ribs used. I hope this helps..

John asks…

BBQ Ribs on a Gas Grill?

I am in a rib cook-off and the rules say that you can't boil the ribs before grilling. I have never cooked them without boiling so I need to know how to cook them on the grill skipping the boiling process. the ribs I'm going to cook are pork baby backs if that helps

newportablegrills.com answers:

Make sure you keep the temp between 220 and 270, also soak some wood chips and wrap them in aluminum foil, make a few holes with a knife and place it directly over the flames to get a nice smoke going. Low and slow is the tempo.

Nancy asks…

I cooked some pork sausage and hamburger mixture on a small portable grill. When the meat seemed done i?

added it to a pizza I was reheating in the microwave. The grill was kind of burnt so I didnt try to clean it right away. I just poured some water on and forgot about it. A couple of days later when I remembered to clean the grill it had worms crawling across the surface. I've never seen anything like that. Does it mean these creatures were in the meat and survived the cooking process? And that I ingested some of them? And I'm going to wind upgetting trichinosis or something? Grown-up answers only please. I'm freaking.

newportablegrills.com answers:

No. It just means the damp meaty water attracted flies that laid eggs, and those are the larvae.

Sandy asks…

we have a blue rhino portable gas grill and it wont light wat are we doing wrong?

newportablegrills.com answers:

Check to see if the propane valve is on and the ignightor isnt fouled. Did you try a match or better yet, can you smell the gas? Get a coleman… They last a long time and come in sturdy cases… I work at Big 5 so no more than 65 bucks can get you a top of the line 'single' grill. Other wise check the spot where the gas is outletted and clean it. Hope this helps…

Your Questions About Gas Grills

Whats the difference between propane and gas grills?

William asks…

Can you store the small 1lb propane tanks for gas grills in your trunk overnight?

I'm switching from charcoal to gas, and planning a tailgate party next month. The tailgating begins Saturday morning, however, we're traveling Friday night and staying at a nearby hotel, so I'm wondering if it's ok to keep the tank in my trunk Friday night, or what the best option is. Any tailgating/grilling/propane experts out there?

Your Questions About Bbq Grill Covers

Chris asks…

I found a mouse in my BBQ Grill. How can I keep them out?

I keep my grill outside, and I keep it covered with one of those vinyl grill covers. Today I took the cover off, and I noticed what looked to be mouse turds all over the little side tables. Upon further inspection, I found the mouse underneith the side-burner cover. I turned the burner on, and the little guy with singged whiskers came out and ran across the hot grill, eventually finding his way off and ran away. I obviously cleaned the heck out of the grill. My question is, how can I prevent mice from making my BBQ grill a home? I dont think I want to have poison around food… but I dont want mouse turds or pee around my food either. I cant really use traps, because the bait would attact ants and other insects, since this is outside. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

newportablegrills.com answers:

Cover the whole grill completely with a big plastic sheet…

Donald asks…

why do you have to cover your BBQ grill?

newportablegrills.com answers:

When not in use – to protect it from the outside elements of dirt, bird poop, insects, weather, etc. When in use – to keep the moisture in the meats and flavor from the smoke and seasoning stays in the moisture of the meat, chicken, pork, sausage, vegetables, potatoes, shrimp, etc. That way it all cooks thoroughly without losing any flavor or tenderness.

Sharon asks…

why does the charcoal die out in my BBQ grill?

I have a weber grill, and the charcoal bricketts die out before I finish grilling. They haven't turned to ash, some are only half burned. I only put enought coal to cover the bottom of the grill. The bottom of the grill has openenings in it, and they are open. If I put the top on the grill, I leave the openings on the lid open too. What am I doing wrong?

newportablegrills.com answers:

Fill the entire bottom with coal, 2 briquettes high. If you want the fire to last longer, close the holes on the bottom to halfway after it is ready to cook on (gray coals). Put the lid on the grill when you're idle in between courses. Sometimes, if you're grilling for a while, you just have to add more coal, it happens.
